At Sunnyside Dental, we are pleased to offer our patients the option of Dental Implants to replace one or more missing teeth. If you are having issues eating the foods you like or speaking with confidence or even just smile normally, then Dental Implants may be an option for you.
What is a Dental Implant?
Dental Implants can look and act like your own natural teeth. The tooth itself is made from porcelain and the base is a metal screw that is made from titanium that is implanted into your jawbone in the area where you are missing a tooth or teeth.
The metal titanium screw is bio-compatible with your jawbone and gums and acts like your original tooth root. However, you must have sufficient bone structure available for the implant to anchor onto. At Sunnyside Dental we use Dental Implants to anchor other restorations such as dental crowns and dental bridges. Dental Implants can even be used as retainers for dentures. The best news is that your Dental Implant will look and function just like your own natural teeth, so no one will be able to tell you have an implant installed.
Why Should I Choose Dental Implants?
Since they are an excellent choice for those who are missing teeth due to decay, injury, oral diseases or even teeth grinding. The ideal candidate should have healthy gums, be in good health and have a strong enough jawbone so the implant can be secured into place.
What is the Dental Implant Procedure?
Our dentist will examine your mouth and take digital x-rays of your jaw, teeth and head in order to determine if implants are right for you. The first stage of surgery is for the dental implant itself to be inserted into your jawbone beneath the gum tissue.
The gum tissue is then stitched up and as the tissue heals, the bio-compatible titanium screw will form a bond with the bone and attach to the gum. Once your tissue has healed, we will attach what is called an abutment to the implant screw. The abutment is what connects the replacement tooth directly to the implant.
He will then attach an artificial tooth made of porcelain to the abutment. This tooth will be matched in colour and shape to the surrounding teeth so that it will blend in with your smile.
If we are replacing multiple teeth, we will anchor a fixed bridge to your Dental Implants. A Dental Bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by covering over the area that has missing teeth. The Dental Implants allow the bridge to be firmly anchored in place.
